Another Hectic week comes to an End.

A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.  ~Tenneva Jordan

Hello and Welcome to all of my new followers- and I apologize for no post yesterday. It appeared our yard man mowed over our Fios line and so we were left stranded all Thursday evening with no TV, phone or - gasp!- internet. And yet, here I am still alive to tell the tale. Actually I think it bothered Mr.Major much more then me who was in dire need of some catch-up reading time.

But, here I am. Back and -sadly empty handed of the pictures from my surprise project. However, with Mothers Day around the corner naturally everyone voted our home for a Mother's Day brunch on Sunday morning, and so I found myself planning another small soirĂ©e at the Major Abode.

After doing some 'idea fishing' as I call it I decided on my color and theme. The latest buzz on spring color and style is gray and yellow- and what better theme to help embody that than a Bee party??

So I set out right to work printing out name tags and pre-cutting out my paper sizes. A friend recently lent me a Paper matting tool called 'The Jig' and I wanted to give it a try.

These were my pre-cut name tags and background papers. Generally I usually play it by eye and it takes me 5-10 minutes to make about ten tags.

Placing the first layer on the correct size I put the paper face down and applied a layer of glue. (ignore my scraggly nails please.)

Then I placed my background layer on the next tier and pressed firmly to adhere...

And viola! One perfectly even- fool proof name tag!

I ended up timing myself to see how long it would take me to make the same ten name tags- and it ended up being about 2 and half minutes. How crazy is that? Anyways, tomorrow I plan on using this bad boy for my menu's as well as my drink list. If anyone is interested in learning more about 'The Jig' check out their website by CLICKING HERE

I really wanted to go all out for this little party and to be honest I have been looking for an excuse to create these...

Oh Martha Stewart, how I covet your clever ideas. So, with tissue paper and scissors in hand I got to work. Starting with 8-10 sheets of paper I cut my idea size- keeping in mind it will be half the size when I am finished.

Next I accordion folded the paper to about 1" strips. Then using some wire I wrapped it around the center of my tissue paper. As you can see I trimmed the edges of my paper as well.

Finally lifting one piece of tissue at a time I fluffed it into layers. Don't get discouraged if it looks entirely wrong when you start- the end result covers up any flaws.

After about 5 minutes of fluffing I ended up with this...

I plan on doing another 5-10 of them over the next few days. As a general rule of thumb I stop when I dread doing more decorating. That usually means its nearing perfection to my taste. wink wink*. I hope everyone is doing well and making some sort of plans for mothers day- or at least someone is making the plans for you!

  1. Oh Victoria!!! I'm so glad you could use the JIG! Your name tags turned out so well, you are a talented young lady. I love the flowers too. I can't wait to see pictures of the event (don't forget to take some). My parents are in Florida so I will be spending the weekend at our local art festival. Hope your Mother has a nice time this weekend, she - and the rest of you - deserve it. Best, Kathy

  2. oh, I forgot to tell you... our friends who inspired The Jig actually decorated the little round divots with rhinestones - they said they pimped their Jig.
